I had a visit this morning from Archangel Lefkowitz, my classmate from the Angelic Academy. He offered a suggestion that might help alleviate the high cost of charms using ancient coins. Pocket Charms, we call ’em in the trade; they can be carried in pocket, purse or pouch.

Hot & Sexy Double Dates — that’s what I have for you right around the corner down this dark alley… Actually, I do have hot & sexy double dates, in the form of little voile treasure bags full of a variety of Lincoln Pennies, all of which are common double-die and RPM dates; are you interested?
Stumped? Puzzled? Don’t know what to do next? Simple. Coin Search. But if you don’t know what to collect, what’s the point? So I have a simple solution. AutoSearch. You get six specially handmade “Catchers”, each with a target date on it. Collect all 12 for a complete spread of all major mint errors and doubled dies. Just toss the coin into the collection box and keep searching. It works itself, nothing to know, nothing to learn. Unless, of course, you want to collect on what you’ve found. Then, it’s workshops, workshops, workshops and then, application and more learning. Ignorance does NOT pay, and it isn’t Bliss, not really. All the coins in my shop, The Penny Store, are certified circulated; what that means is that they are absolutely guaranteed to be used business-strike coins that have been lifted out of circulation, where they’ve been since they were minted or shortly thereafter. I say “shortly thereafter” because they are beautiful. Some are bright and shiny, as if they’d just popped out of the mint machine. Others are amber, honey, mahogany and drenched with an unusual and hard-to-find eye-pleasing inner glow and natural patination. Still others have something weird going on with them, or they’re victims of Mint Error, which generally translates into market value and desirability. In any case, each and every one of these coins will make you stop and stare and wonder “How in the world did you get here?”

I’m currently creating a bunch of $50 1000-Coin Family Christmas Specials for about a dozen folks who took me up on my offer to pre-clean the batch of coins, meaning I’d take out the obvious crud and coins beneath grade, leaving only those coins that would be okay in an album. What you end up with is the same bank box of pennies, minus the crud. Whatever you were going to get is there for you to get. Nothing of value is removed, no matter what it might be, even a 1909-S VDB. Continue reading
