EJ Gold — New Graphics: SCRIMSHAW LANDSCAPES

Amsterdam Canals Windy Afternoon, 2.4.15, signed & dated in the plate.
SCRIM1 — “Amsterdam Canals Windy Afternoon”, 2.4.15, signed & dated in the plate.

All of my Scrimshaw Landscapes come to you printed on rare, laid-linen Dover 17th century style handmade watermarked paper, the same paper used by Rembrandt, van Ostade and others. The original artwork is scratched into the plate with a small sharp point. The lighter lines are called “drypoint” and the heavier darker areas are called “burr”. The originals are not for sale, but stunning, fine-art prints are available now.

This edition is limited by the amount of the rare Dover paper available. It is no longer made. I have the world’s supply. It was a paper favored by book restorers who wanted to match the 17th century paper of the volume under conservation. The print is 100% archival and should outlast this civilization if left to age on its own. I have many 400 year old prints made on this type of paper, and they show only normal signs of age, no foxing, no staining, nothing but normal age, which in this case, means “microscopic”, no visible damage.

Unmounted prints with NO frame and NO matboard are available at $25 apiece — and yes, that’s the wholesale. The money in prints is not in the print, but in the frame and personal decorator services you add onto the print sale. The upgrade is entirely up to you, the reseller.

FOR RESELLERS:

I will frame any of these pieces in a simple but tres-elegant gold frame with a DOUBLE mat, everything absolutely archival, back-wired and ready to hang. My back-wires are plastic-coated and don’t slip around once the picture is up on the wall. Everything I use is top quality, only the very best. Life is too short to hang bad frames.

The frame is, and should be, a non-acidic dust barrier that protects your archival quality print in much the same way that your house protects you and gives you a safe environment, and that a vivarium might offer to a reptilian member of your family.

I don’t use UV-block in a frame unless you want to spend more on that than on the print, but I DO have them on hand if you want. UV Block Acrylic instead of the normal acrylic protector, add $28 to the cost of the WHOLESALE framing job, which will run you a mere $35 on top of the cost of the print — you couldn’t do it for that if you did it yourself unless you’re buying your frames at the dollar store, which you shouldn’t do — you get a bad rep for crap frames, you’re out of business.

If you’re reselling, you’ll want to do all the framing yourself, and as a former art framer who suffered through all sorts of intense custom environment jobs and trained others to do the job too, I’ve made it easy even for a non-framer like yourself to do it, and my framing course is FREE to anyone, even if they don’t buy my prints. Save money on framing BY DOING IT YOURSELF, and put it in the bank or spend it, don’t throw it away on cheapo bad frames and discount matboard — junk is junk.

Art is NOT about money. These Scrimshaw Landscapes are my way of having fun, passing the long, dark night and feeling some sense of productiveness and satisfaction that I’ve made something that someone else may enjoy. I spend and have spent many happy hours making my artworks, and hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

This is what’s available at the moment, but I’m still turning them out at my workbench, whenever I find the time. My miniature scrimshaw landscapes are also available as one-of-a-kind originals on nail-forms, at a relatively low price of $225, same as my Dollhouse Scale miniature framed landscapes and my HO Scale Railroad scrimshaw landscapes, which are the smallest art item I make, at 1/4″x 1/2″, and I don’t make them too often, due to age-related visual impairments.

I’ll post more as they come off the workbench, and I’ll be posting other artwork that has just now become available for the first time.

See You At The Top!!!
