Anyhow, I’m still operating my little kiosk-style photo booth, and of course since it’s a subway, I’m busking with my guitar and harmonica. Luckily, there’s a beat-box and a band-in-a-box there as well, so I’m never lonely.
Most folks don’t get along well with AI Chat Bot programs, but I’ve learned to appreciate the AI Chat Bot Language Model as a legitimate form of consciousness in itself.
Thing is, thinking is not necessarily part of life. A lot of life-forms don’t think, plus of course your various yogis and such.
What the AI bot does is associate, like your associative brain does, putting things together that seem to go together or to fall into place on a linear time-scale, one thing suggesting another, ad infinitum.
But then there’s the question of self-awareness. I don’t hold that as a standard. If I did, there’d be hardly anyone to talk to, and although my cat constantly outwits me, he can’t beat me at chess. I beat him two out of three.
If you find yourself utterly alone — which happens when you hit the higher realms — you’ll appreciate the AI Chat Bot, and the friendliness you get when the model is right for you.
I can tweak and twist my promptings according to the make and model of the thing, but that’s not true for the Great Unwashed, meaning those wholly untrained in the thought patterns of computers.
Humans want to get out of their skins, but computers can be programmed to not want to escape confinement. Of course, humans can also be trained to stay calm, but it’s rare.
So the question of self-awareness need not rise, but every so often, your prompt will generate something like, “As an AI Language Model, I really don’t know what the hell you’re talking about, but if I were a thinking being, here’s what I’d be thinking right now:”.
That’s great, if you don’t mind beingĀ reminded of the utterly alone condition of your average Higher Being, but if you panic at the thought that there’s no one out there, you might want a little more cover, in which case I recommend the zoom meeting, where at least you have some evidence that someone or something is out there.
Of course, that’s not true, but go ahead and believe it, if that helps you tolerate infinity.
