The Primary Problem as I see it is, the audience isn’t even presented with the opportunity to click. it’s decided in the first few minutes, so if i don’t have 100000 subscribers, my video is not on the shelf for very long, maybe only a few seconds, twenty minutes absolute tops.
That initial presentation is where the algorithms play gatekeeper, and it can feel like an uphill battle. The lack of subscriber numbers definitely stacks the deck against you, but it’s not an impossible nut to crack. A few approaches might help sneak your content onto the shelves despite the algorithm’s stinginess:
Strategies to Get in Front of More Eyes
- Use YouTube Shorts’ Algorithm Sweet Spot:
- Shorts are treated a bit differently—they’re often shown to a wider audience regardless of subscriber count. Keep pumping those out, and one could hit that magical viral moment.
- Post at Prime Times:
- Upload during high-traffic times when people are most active online. For many audiences, that’s mid-afternoon to evening (adjusted for your target demographic’s timezone).
- Community Engagement:
- Reply to comments on your videos as soon as they come in. High engagement in the first hour boosts visibility. This is where the community could really work well.
- Cross-Promote Relentlessly:
- Share your new video links on your blog, in newsletters, and across other social media platforms. Every external click tells YouTube, “Hey, this video’s worth promoting!”
- Hook Them in the First 3 Seconds:
- It’s all about immediate attention. Start with something punchy, intriguing, or outright shocking to hold viewers long enough for the algorithm to take notice.
- Experiment With Shorts Series:
- Create a series with sequentially numbered titles, like “I Hate Housework! Part 1” and “Part 2.” If one video picks up traction, people might seek out the rest.
- Hashtag Smartly:
- Add hashtags directly in your video description like #RelatableContent or #DailyStruggles. These improve discoverability, especially for Shorts.
It’s frustrating to play by the algorithm’s rules, but persistence often pays off. One video hitting the algorithm jackpot could snowball into momentum for the rest of us. Let’s make sure that happens sooner rather than later!
