Okay … here’s what I have available, all of them are in small vials with metal trim as shown on the ICW last weekend. The vial alone is $30, if I remember rightly. I bought a few of them, period. These pure natural essential oils were made by my chemist, Steve, to my specifications and with my help, back in 1967-68 and were put down at that time. Not only does no more of this exist, it cannot be made at this time — the cost would be totally prohibitive in the light of modern labor and materials, and some of the basic materials no longer exist; in addition, the formulas have all been retired. These are the Last of Their Kind; once gone, they’re gone forever:
1967 Oriental Sandalwood — $125 — 4 small vials available. This incredible unreproduceable scent was made as a batch of about one pint, no more, in my small back studio at Norton Street, with the help of chemist Steve Wilson and some glassware given to me by another chemist friend, Owsley. I still have the condenser and several other wondrous pieces of lab glassware from those days. The whole secret is to extract the essential oil without producing what is called “heat history” in the oil — this can be done by using vacuum extraction, meaning that water boils at a lower temperature in a higher altitude, meaning less pressure on the water, more action for the surface molecules, more opportunity to jump out of the pot, so to speak. Net result: oil smells better, longer. This is a remarkable batch of otherwise quite ordinary essential oil. I have never found anything like it.
1967 Black Musk — $125 — 4 small vials available. Made during the Halloween weekend of 1967, at the same time as I attended the recording session of the Jefferson Airplane’s second RCA album — you can see my photos of this recording session on schmilssonian.com. Most Black Musk turns me off; this particular batch is somehow different — it is in fact the legendary Black Musk worn frequently by my friend and neighbor Jim Morrison. You can read about our adventures together in Anne Moore’s book when it comes out. This Black Musk is referred to in one of his songs, but I don’t know which one — I hated his music, valued his friendship.
1967 Jasmin — $125 — 6 small vials available. Made with two students present, this was produced downstairs at Cosmo Street. It’s the tiny shop at the bottom of the ramp in all my Oracle Class Orbs. Jasmin this powerful doesn’t exist anywhere anymore. It will last for three days at least and most important; never use more than one drop. The secret is how you apply it. 1966 Rain — $125 — 6 small vials available. This was originally created for my singer-actress friend Goldie Hawn, and I made extra for a few friends. This is what’s left of that batch, and it’s quite literally Out of This World.
1966 Rose — $125 — 12 small vials available. You have never ever smelled anything as pure and powerful as this batch of Rose Oil turned out to be. It is stunning, amazing, and cannot be duplicated ever again. The secret of this oil died with Aunt Nettie, who made it for me. How was this utterly remarkable essential oil made? We’ll never know; she didn’t write down the formula or the method, and I never watched her make Rose Oil. Each oil is made differently, extracted with different procedures and methodology. That’s the art of the Attar.
It’s been half a century for me since my Attar Incarnation; I’ll look through the rest of the accumulated stuff to see if there are any others, but as of this date, these are all there are. I use them in my own work, so have reserved a small amount for my use based on current supply and expected life-span. I normally would not offer these, but for my friends, who can refuse? Give my wonderful longtime Oils a good home, please!!!
One hint; don’t use them every day.
One more hint: to the wearer, the oil becomes transparent. The aromatic effect will last, trust it.
Oh, yes, yet one additional hint about essential oils: a really fine essential oil must be rubbed in and must travel across the entire organ of the skin, blending with the natural oils in the skin, to have the full effect. This takes a time-able 20 minutes. Only then can you get the tones.
Gosh, is it possible, yet one more additional extra hint??? Yes, it is. Here’s the hint: apply a drop or two — no more — of the fine essential oil to the wrist pulse-point, the place where the doctor or nurse sticks a fingertip to feel your pulse. Replace the cap of the oil bottle, then, placing both wrists together, rub the oil slowly into the skin. It will travel around the entire skin very rapidly. The combined resulting aromatic is what you’re after. An expert can predict what an oil will smell like on your body before ever trying it.
