GoreBagg’s World 3D Shooter

You start here, at the Hobbit Village, where you can resupply or just visit and chat with the locals.

Nothing bad happens in this little hobbit town — no zombies here, but just over the little stone bridge and you’d better watch your step.

The object is to avoid annoying the zombies as you stroll through the woods and little hamlets along the way.

If you stumble across one or more, they will immediately commence to attack you relentlessly and mercilessly.

At least, I HOPE mercilessly — I programmed them that way to make your task just a little more difficult.

Try as you might, you won’t be able to avoid all of them.

Of course, if you prefer, you can just go ahead and kill them all. They appreciate the action — it’s the only attention they can get.

They automatically respawn when the game is re-invoked, and they like to leave you a present when they do happen to implode.

How many blasts of your magical weapons will it take to bring down a zombie?

Depends.

Some go down like a lead balloon, while others seem to persist through a dozen volleys of blasting rods, wands and zappers.

As you can see from the screenshots, it’s a pretty little place — well, maybe not so little. It takes about half an hour to walk the whole thing end to end, and sometimes, depending on the weather and the zombie intrusions, it can take up to an hour to RUN it.

It’s an enormous map, and I hope you enjoy it.

You won’t run out of places to go or zombies to pacify, which is a word we use when we’re too polite to say kill.

It is a shooter game, and that’s a fact, but it’s not violent. You won’t see pieces of stuff flying off even the undead, and there’s no blood, no guts, nothing to get in the way of good solid gaming.

You sharpen up everything with this game — attention, presence, will, concentration and much, much more.

It all goes into getting through the game unscathed — that means without dying.

What I mean is, that’s the eventual goal, but in the meantime, you’ll have to satisfy yourself with the idea of not dying REPEATEDLY as you try to get through it to the end.

It’s actually not that hard, and as your skills improve, you’ll have to go looking for trouble if you want to improve your score.

The score is not the game. It’s actually about making split-second decisions, and being able to handle surprise without losing it entirely.

Your attention and sharpness will definitely improve as you work with this game, and it IS a game, definitely a game, not just a walk in the woods, although that IS the basic idea.

Just a quiet meditative walk in the woods.

The thing is, my literary background includes far more than J.R.R. Tolkien. I have at my disposal a fine copy of “Faerie Queene” by Edmund Spenser, first published in 1590, if I recollect rightly.

This game is a little different. I’m making it for me, meaning to my own personal gaming tastes.

Looking at this game from the perspective of a very experienced Creator — I’ve been making game levels since before Wolfenstein and Rise of the Triad, which both predate Doom by a significant margin — I know that in the course of making this game, I will probably go through it several thousand times.

If I’m going to go through this game thousands of times, it had better be something I enjoy going through thousands of times.

That means it’s got to be a game that challenges and allows creative play, and that’s exactly what I know how to do.

In short, since 1987, I’ve been producing 3D games, and some of them have enjoyed millions of downloads, notably “Paparazi” and “Sunset”, which were featured on CNN.

I’m going to develop GoreBagg’s World the way I want to run it, with good gaming and fair gaming my utmost goals.

If you also happen to enjoy this game, that’s great, but I’m not designing it for what I think someone might enjoy doing thousands of times.

It’s me I have to satisfy.

If you want to help promote and publicize this very retro game, go ahead — do the things on social media that you know how to do, and thank you for your efforts.

I’ll be happy to add you to our BETA list if you’re interested in actually helping us debug the game.

I’m working through the night, hoping to save enough energy to see you in the morning.

See You At The Top!!!
