Sandy Denny was without a doubt the greatest rock vocalist of the late 1960s, including everyone you can name, yet she’s totally obscure, wiped off the face of the Earth, the Forgotten Queen of Acid Rock. Why??? The answer is crystal clear … She couldn’t lay off the drugs and alcohol, although it was the alcohol, in the end, that got her; booze and prescription drugs often prove fatal combinations, and it was so with her. She’s gone, and that’s all there is to say about that.
Fairport Convention is also Long-Forgotten by Most, yet it was terrifically influential Back in The Day. Here’s a good sample of their earliest video-recorded work with original vocalist Judy Dyble:
